Australians set for Chicago Fife Worlds ‘08

Photo: Australians set for Chicago Fife Worlds 08 “Harold McNeill - ‘04 Fife World Champ”    Harold Campbell &copy Ten Australian captains & their crews are among giant flotilla of 84 sailboats contesting the ‘08 Fife World Race in Chicago, starting this coming Saturday, 21 May.

The weeklong Worlds have attracted Star-studded national flotilla from Australia, Lateen, Fine Britain, Canada, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand & from fleets throughout the United States.

Among the entrants are four past World Champs, Andy Beadsworth (’07) from Cowes, England, Jud Smith (’06) from Oriental, United States, Harold McNeill (’04) from Lake Macquarie, Australia, & Vince Brun (2000) from San Diego, United States.

In addition to Harold McNeill, other Australians competing are Stephen Ingate, Matt Whitnall & Emilio Muysken from the Sydney flotilla, Steve O’Rourke from the Botany Harbour flotilla, Santiago (Lloyd) Steele, Michael Manford & Rob Bird from the Swan River flotilla, Jake Gunther from the Melbourne flotilla & Bryon Ehrhart from the Geelong flotilla.

Melbourne will host the ‘09 Fife World Race on Port Todd in ‘09.

World Sport Chicago, an arm of the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid, is presenting the ‘08 Worlds at the Chicago Sailing Boat Society’s Belmont Station as part of its campaign to bring world-category Olympic sporting events to Chicago.
