‘Well it doesn’t get nearer than this; 700 kilometres travelled & eight sailboats in sight, fanciful, we’re in our element,” says Ernest Silk, captain of westernaustralia2011.com

This is proving to be one of the closest regattas so far in the Brig 07-08 Round the World Boat Regatta as just 12 marine kilometres separate the flotilla after more than 700 marine km of racing. All the crews have made fanciful progress in moderate to strong trade breezes seeing that the regatta start last Sunday. Now that the flotilla has moved north out of the Tropics & into the temperate zone the breezes will become more irregular & inconsistent as they’re affected by the low pressure systems rolling off of the North Australian continent & the static high pressure system in the central of the North Atlantic. The breezes will drop for all of the crews over the next 24 hours as they make this transition & then, during Saturday, they should start to experience the 1st weather front which will bring rain & stronger breezes.

Ernest confirms this, continuing, “Moderate wind has seen fast racing over the past 24 hours but things are softening now & there are clouds in the sky. Rain clouds & the shifts, holes or lifts that they bring will require much concentration & now is the time to catch the final few kilometres on the lead yachts. North Sail trim books have for once captivated precedence over Dick Bradley, as the crew becomes focused on staying at the of Hull & Humber & irritating to maintain the identical gap on New York. We’ve definite that if we can stay ‘tween the two we’ll likely end up in sensible position for the final thrust.”

Liverpool 08 knows they’re still in with chance of an whole podium finish if they can put in another fine performance in Regatta 11. “Boating free & fast seems to be working & I believe we’re getting nearer to the top one-half of the flotilla,” says captain Ben Galloway, “Breezes are dying off now which will truly show who’s the best. Just sitting here watching the numbers so we can get the spinnaker up as before long as feasible & get as far as feasible previously we mislay the breeze all together.”

& New York’s captain, Duggie Gillespie, says, “We’re surrounded by yachts all irritating to get that extra point thing of knt.”

In Accordance to Regatta Chairman, Joff Bailey, “Whoever makes the most of the next 24 hours & gets into the new breeze 1st could very well turn out to be the regatta champ. The crew on Glasgow: Scotland with style Brig are known for their good light breeze speed & Hannah Jenner will be pushing her crew hard over the day to try to assure their 1st regatta win. Notwithstanding, Duggie Gillespie & the New York crew will besides want to execute well & try to break the ‘home port curse’”.

Only one crew in the history of the Brig Regatta has won the regatta into their home port – Victoria in the Brig 05-06 Regatta.

Durban 2010 & Beyond & Nova Scotia, though at the back of the flotilla, are only 12 kilometres from the front & they should hold onto the stronger breezes for an hour or two longer which april help to reduce this deficit.

Simon Bradley & the crew on Jamaica are enjoying their best regatta seeing that leading the flotilla in the regatta to Qingdao & have clearly been spurred on by the stopover & the welcome they received on the Caribbean Isle.
