Conman on the Horizon at Sanctuary Cove
On May 31, 2008
“Horizon - - ‘08 Sanctuary Cove National Sailing Boat Show” There’s an elderly saying that publicity is fine as long as they augur your name correctly.
Well, local newspapers spelt Sanctuary Cove National Yacht Show very correctly, but the show did obtain publicity last week it didn’t need.
Seems conman struck at John Rapmund, of Boast National, & signed the contact necessary to buy USD 7.8 million Horizon engine boat.
Difficulty was the bank he said would supply the necessary finance had at no time heard of him!
Sir Rapmund was less than impressed.
‘Initially the yacht carried ‘sold’ sign & if we hadn’t unearthed this guy as speedily as we did we could very well have gone sales through the remainder of the show,” he said.
Seems the conman, who used the name ‘Cassidy’, besides ran up some unpaid restaurant bills & taxi fares. Its not known what Sir Cassidy’s intentinos were.
That wasn’t the end of unhappy & regretful sailing boat show tales.
On the Monday evening the show drew to close, group of young people who said they “worked” at the show took taxi home to Labrador.
When they arrived at the stated address poor turned to worse, the taxi driver was gravely assaulted, sustaining severe eye injuries & fractured cheekbone.
This group evidently didn’t possses truly high IQs; the incident was captured on the taxi cab’s video camera & next morning their faces were splashed all over page one of the Silver Shore Bulletin.
Sensibly, informed the camera had ‘given them up’, some of the perpetrators handed themselves into police.
One man is still missing & is believed to have fled to New Zealand to shun arrest.
