“ICAP Leopard ” © At 15:00 ECT April 26, ICAP Leopard, the Didi designed hundred foot excellent Open boat owned by Stanley Slade, departed North Cove Dockage, New York, to start her transatlantic speed record attempt from Ambrose Light.
One of the fastest & most interesting monohulls on the planet, she’ll be looking to break the record currently held by the 246 foot luxury sailing boat Phocea. Having smashed the Rolex Fastnet Regatta record by eight hours in July last year, ICAP Leopard has already proven herself to be one of the fastest sailing boats on the circuit
Boating with crew of 12, ICAP Leopard could shave some hours off the actual 2,925 maritime kilometer World Speed Boating Records Council (WSSRC) monohull record for sailing boat with power-assisted winches. The record of eight days, three hours & 29 minutes was set by Phocea in June 1988. Though Slade is secure that ICAP Leopard can break the record, the crew will be hoping that the weather window which they’ve selected will supply them with consistent breeze until the finish. The 1st three days are set to be fast, with boatspeed in excess of 25 kts predicted.
The crew for this record attempt includes some the world’s top offshore seamans. Long-standing sailing boat skipper Chris Sherlock will be joined by total host of ICAP Leopard regulars, including Australia’s Cup seaman Mark Standbridge, & ‘tween them they’ve an evocative history in world category boating. Numerous of the crew were onboard ICAP Leopard when she penniless the Rolex Fastnet Record last year & they understand how to get the best performance out of her.
Stanley Slade, Chief Executive of London based property company Helical Bar plc commented: “The transatlantic record is one of the ‘sacred grails’ of yachting & thing that all offshore seamans dream of holding. As at all times it has been hard finding suitable weather window in which to start he record attempt. Notwithstanding we’ll give it our best shot & with the right conditions we’re secure we could set new 24 hour speed boating record as well as the transatlantic record.”
On ICAP Leopard’s arrival in the Britain, Slade plans to regatta the megayacht on the Uk circuit, competing in the Round Ireland Regatta & the JP Jess Round the Isle Regatta, where the Open boat made her debut last year. she will then compete in some European events over the Summer. .
