Moloney & BT Extreme 40 ready for iShares Cup
On May 28, 2008
“BT Extreme 40’ , Captain Nick Moloney.” Starting this Saturday, 30th April is the 1st iShares Cup Extreme 40 event in Lugano, Switzerland & the BT Extreme 40, skippered by Nick Moloney, is aiming for another total podium place following their 3rd place total in last year’s series.
Moloney & the BT crew will be competing in up to 15 regattas over three days & the racing will be extreme & even more competitory with strong line-up of 10 crews including two Australia’s Cup crew entries in the form of Alinghi & last season’s champs onboard Crew Origin.
‘This season is going to be very interesting. there is fine flotilla just raring to go & the contest will be full on from the 1st start. We’re not truly fearing anyone in particular - everybody is human & the better the normal the more cherished the fine results will be,” said Nick. “It’s fine the Cup guys are here competing & I’ve numerous fine friends amongst that world that are now in the flotilla, & we’re beautiful motivated as usual to beat our mates! The Extreme 40 category has captivated big step up on the professional ladder & the results will be hard fought for. Our whole objective for BT is podium place for the season once again.”
The BT Extreme 40 crew are already in Lugano, located on the Swiss/Italian border, putting in some more training prestart: “Not lot of breeze these day but think it’ll get better as week progresses. I’ve at no time been here previously but it’s truly attractive location. Very green, ritzy place for the attractive people driving sports cars! This week we’ll get better thought as to the amount of work at the of us to achieve our total objective.”
Talking around his crew, Nick commented: “we have fine crew for the iShares Cup programme, which is relief after being faced with complete re-build after losing multihull legends Lonnie Bundock & Jeffery Ashby to the Olympic Games this year. The new crew consists of the Yngling crew of Raymond Walsh & Ed Barney as well as Star category Olympian & World Champ Steve Mitchell - with the added toss from last year that now I’m heavily outnumbered with three Brits & one Yankee onboard!
‘The combination of Walsh & Barney is key based on the faith in it being vital to have great trimaran experience onboard & these guys sail cats all the time at the highest level. This week will be thing like their tenth race this year. Given that courses are so short it’s besides vital that these two guys heeling on conspiratorial each other so well to help make fast split decisions. “Stevie” Mitchel is our powerhouse & has fine total boating experience & sailboat knowledge as past world champion - he besides delivers some good jokes that can help the guys de-stress occasionally! I guess I’m bit of mediator bringing the experience on handling the beast & total strategy & onboard kinetics. we have an astonishing crew & we feel lucky & aroused around our plans & objectives.”
& finally on the importance of this 1st iShares Cup event of the five scheduled this season: “As with all of these things the 1st few regattas will be very significant for our conviction. No doubt the learning curve will be very steep for all of us but learning is larger source of my individual motivation.”
