The Savage 540 Catalina Sterndrive was named champion in the Trawler Trailerable (Aluminium Under 6m) class at this years prestigious ‘08 Australian Nautical Businesses Federation Grants.

‘It’s definitely worthy champion,” said Ian Stanley, Savage’s Product Administrator.

‘The 540 Catalina is fine looking & wonderfully functional with the at all reliable MerCruiser 3.0 litre sterndrive providing that four-stroke torque drivers want.

‘When you want to focus on fishing the bow seating is smoothly removed, it’s truly versatile family yacht. So if you want yacht that’s perfect for sailing, watersports or fishing, this yacht can handle it & will make everybody happy,’ he said.

The Australian Nautical Grants highlight the very best of what’s to hand to Australian sailing boat-lovers, both locally-made & imported.

‘All finalists substitute for excellence in quality & to be finalist is an outstanding achievement in itself,” said Sherry Donaldson, CMO of the Australian Maritime Businesses Federation which presents the grants.

A panel of eight judges – four from the media & four independent experts – chosen the champs after considering more than 40 aspects of each yacht, covering whole impression, presentation, ergonomics, performance & safety.

‘The sterndrive makes this yacht lot roomier than its equivalent-sized participants,” Ian said. With space for six people, there’s besides loads of storage for vests, ski ropes & fishing gear, whilst the new low-profile windscreen complements the sailboat’s sleek fine looks, & the cleverly designed walkthrough section allows people to smoothly get to the bow seats.

The sterndrive besides improves the sailboat’s handling characteristics, allowing it to turn & track with ease, whilst fibreglass motor box significantly reduces motor noise.
