New from enhancing father for the second time defending World Winner Sami Selio of the Woodstock Red Devil Racing Crew can now focus his full attention to his home Large Prix as the third Round of the U.I.M. F1 World Race for powerboat racing turns north to his home country of Finland & the good-looking city of Lahti with the arrival of the world’s best drivers on water for the week-end of the 7th & 8th of May & the 4th Large Prix of Finland.

Scoring storied title run in ‘07 that saw the 33 year elderly driver from Helsinki win the final to regattas in Abu Dhabi & Sharjah to snatch the World Race, is now looking to regain that karma & get back on the engaging track at his home Large Prix.

‘we are aroused around being back home for this next significant round of the ‘08 season,” said Sami. “Being new father again & having so numerous of my good followers that’ll be cheering for my crew should help. we are not satisfied with the 1st two events & want to win at home & if not, regain at least podium position to get back into the race picture previously ending the European campaign in these next two regattas.”

Whilst the Finnish Star looks for win, so does Swedish driver Jonas Andersson of the F1 Crew Sweden effort, second in the race with 20 points after win at the Large Prix of Qatar followed by very disappointing effort in Portugal where he failed to finish the opening lap when he motor stopped.

‘there is good tradition here for Scandinavian drivers to do well,” stated Jonas. “We want to get back our momentum with another win & Finland would be good place to do it seeing that I’ll have friends visiting to watch us regatta as well.”

No Finnish driver has at all won at his home Large Prix. In 1998 in Tampere, all eyes were following local driver Pertti Leppala who was in struggle for the race that season with Australian Scott Gillman, Italian Guido Cappellini & Welshman Justin Jones. Leppala managed to qualify well in third, but dropped out of the event early & finished disappointing 16th. Swedish driver Goran Karlof ended up engaging that day for his one career triumph.

In ‘02 French driver Philippe Dessertenne took the prize with his favourite success in downtown Helsinki followed by the Italian Francesco Cantando of Milan who won for the 8th time in his career in ‘03 at the identical venue. Both drivers are predicted back & will be looking for repeat of their luck on Finnish water once again.

So, win on home soil this season? Well, we’ll have to wait & see. The man who has been the most consistent so far in ‘08 is the Australian driver Jay Price of the Qatar Crew. The driver from New Orleans, Louisiana is on streak of sorts having been on the podium for the past three regattas including the last one of ‘07 in Sharjah. His win at the last event at the Large Prix of Portugal following second at his home Large Prix in Doha back in March that now sees him at the top of the table with 35 points. it will be significant for him to keep the pressure on the rest of the field with at least one podium finish in his next two regattas previously the series heads off to the Far East in China after the summer recess.

So the Scandinavian names of Bertil Wik, Anders Andersson, Goran Karlof, Thomas Ericsson, Pertti Leppala, Jari Honkala, Michael Weckstrom, Thomas Guttormsen, Frode Sundsdal, Rolf Sunde & Gert Ladefoged just to name few, combined with these day’s names of Jonas Andersson, Pierre Lundin & Marit Stromoy who are predicted to be fighting for win proves that even while you maybe alive 50 degrees North of the equator, doesn’t intend you don’t have the fire & desire to become World Winner. Just question Sami Selio.
